“You are not a machine. Stop grinding.”

— Tricia Hershey, The Nap Bishop

In my work with Black women I have noticed just how often we have the experience of feeling pressured to be strong, tough, reasonable. Even when we feel like everything is crumbling around us. We are expected to be tough enough to carry not only our own burdens, but the burdens of everyone else. All while creating a presence that is comforting.

What about creating that comforting space for ourselves?

Being resilient and strong are great and admirable qualities. However, they are not the only characteristics we possess. Black women cry, feel pain, get tired, get angry, and need comfort just like everyone else. It just so happens that this world does not often allow us space to feel those things freely.

It’s time to change that narrative.

When we think of softness we often think of comfortable pillows and blankets. Cozy beds and couches. Spaces for us to relax and lounge. To be still and peaceful. To laugh with loved ones.

A Soft Place to Land is all about teaching Black women ways to bring more comfort, ease, rest, joy, clarity, and pleasure into their lives. To have access to that softness whenever we need it.

Join me as we learn to invite more softness into our lives.
